He has put his money where his mouth is by investing in his race team, Pastrana Waltrip Racing and I'm impressed with what he has said about his intentions are with a career in NASCAR. To quote him:
"I've been following NASCAR closely for years as a fan of the sport with competing in the sport a life-long dream," Pastrana said. "I decided it was time to try and turn that dream into reality and with the help of the Bechtel family, Michael Waltrip Racing and Wasserman media group I'm now one step closer!"
The initial plans are for Pastrana to compete in seven NASCAR Nationwide races in 2011 and twenty races in 2012. Looks like this is his next race 3 Amigos Organic 100, Phoenix International Raceway, Feb. 24th. I sure am eagerly awaiting that race, it should be a better test of regular competition with just the Nationwide drivers.
I know he has had so much success in other sports, but that doesn't always translate well into a different field. And before you armchair drivers bash me, have you ever driven a car over 140 mph? Have you ever put any laps in on any kind of race track? And go-carts don't count. Have you ever ridden on a motocross track? Well I can say yes to all of the above plus I can drive an 18 wheeler and fly an airplane. I learned to ride motorcycle on a motocross track, taught the ins and outs of staying alive by a champion racer from So. Cal. I was just 19 and had no fear. I still don't when it comes to speed., the Docs made me give up 2 wheels but I still have fast cars!
Danica News
Danica Patrick has said she'll race in the Nationwide opener on Daytona's new surface on Feb. 19, followed by races in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Bristol, where she'll get her first taste of short-track stock car racing. After that, it's back to IndyCar then she'll race some more Nationwide Race later in the season.
All in all it should be some very interesting racing in the Nationwide series this year. It may have a lot more action and drama than the Sprint Cup series. If you are going to be away from home come on over to NASCAR Streaming TV and get the package to watch the races on your PC or laptop. My laptop goes with me everywhere, I have a broadband card and am rarely out of range of a cell tower, I sure don't want to miss any racing action!
